Introduction
The education and research of the Department of Bioscience & Biotechnology at Konkuk University (KU) focuses on fostering researchers with a global perspective and those with interdisciplinary knowledge tailored to industries related to high value-added biomaterials (biofunctional materials, biomedical substances, and nanobiomaterials).
Our department’s strengths can be summarized into three keywords: excellence, globalization, and practicality. Excellence: Our department's cutting edge education and research are undertaken with a convergent and systematic approach to chemistry, biology, biotechnology, and nanobio, through the competitiveness and support among researchers. As a result, we are able to provide a world-class education and achieve outstanding research outcomes.
Globalization: International education and research are conducted through international exchanges with the world’s top universities.
Practicality: Technology designed to respond to the demands of industry is developed through academic-industry cooperation in study and exchange, while researchers are tailor-made for industry.
The department pursues the following three educational objectives.
- Fostering creative international researchers
- Educating researchers tailored to the demands of industry
- Cultivating researchers with interdisciplinary knowledge and ability to converge different academic fields In sum, we pursue excellence, globalization, and practicality to educate our graduate students and conduct top-class research. To achieve our goals, convergent and systematic approaches among diverse fields of biotechnology will be attempted. The Department of Bioscience and biotechnology at KU aims to be one of the top 100 graduate programs in this field.
