The College of Sciences, which was founded in February 1959 as the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was separated from the College of Arts and Sciences as the College of Sciences in February 1984 by the approval of the change of academic regulations and consisted of 3 departments: Department of Mathematics, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Physics. We aim to develop advanced science and technology professionals with theoretical knowledge and practical skills through theoretical courses and laboratory exercises in the natural sciences. To achieve this goal, the College of Sciences has 38 full-time professors, 550 undergraduate students, and 100 graduate students dedicated to the study and research of basic sciences.
The college offers 54 majors and has expanded the latest laboratory equipment to provide quality education and train excellent human resources who can adapt to the highly specialized industrial society. In addition, the Department of Mathematics operates the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, while the Department of Chemistry operates the Liquid Crystal Research Center and the Solar Cell Research Center. The Department of Physics operates the BK Project Center, the Advanced Physics Research Center, and the Quantum Future Research Center, resulting in outstanding achievements in basic and applied research.

The College of Sciences is filled with sincere and talented professors who represent the best in the academic world, as well as creative minds who are passionate about their work and are committed to researching the basic sciences that will guide the future.
Basic science is a discipline that explores the fundamental principles of nature and is applied to various fields such as engineering, medicine, BT, IT, and economics. The advancement of basic science is the source of creativity leading to the 4th Industrial Revolution. In addition to basic science research, we are conducting world-class research in artificial intelligence, medical imaging, infectious disease spread, graphene semiconductors, quantum materials, liquid crystals, solar energy, protein synthesis, and many other applications, and we look forward to welcoming new young scientists to join us.
We hope that all of those who are or will become members of the College of Sciences at KU will find joy and fulfillment in their dreams and passions based on the founding philosophy of Dr. Sang-huh Yoo Seok-chang, " Sincerity, Fidelity, and Righteousness".
