Welcome to the Department of Political Science at KU.
The KU Department of Political Science was established in 1946 as the Joseon Institute of Political Science to train talented individuals to lead Korea's politics. Over the past 70 years, many talented individuals from the KU Department of Political Science have actively contributed to Korea's political, economic, and social development by participating in historical events such as the founding of Korea, the Korean War, economic development, political democratization, and globalization. Today, our alumni work in various fields such as politics, law, government departments, media, universities and research institutes, and (public) companies.
In the 21st century information age and globalization, the role of the nation, government, and politics has become increasingly important and complex. The Department of Political Science at KU aims to develop talented political leaders who meet global standards, and strives to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the operation of politics and national power in a modern democratic society, as well as specific and specialized knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including constitutional law, government organization and administration law, and international law. We also encourage students to broaden their perspectives and knowledge of the world by participating in programs such as the Mock National Assembly, Exchange Student, Blue House & National Assembly & Election Site Visiting Programs, and the University Student Mock United Nations Conference.
Our students prepare for their careers and futures by developing their leadership and thinking skills through thoughtful consideration of the direction of our society and fundamental values such as freedom, equality, and justice. We are creating an academic community where seniors, alumni, and juniors support and encourage each other's development. We hope you will continue to join us in this endeavor.

Educational Goals
The Department of Political Science conducts theoretical and analytical research on essential phenomena and issues in national and international politics. It explores practical policies and actions in the field of politics and diplomacy. Through courses such as comparative politics, international politics, Korean politics, regional studies, and political science research methodology, we aim to develop competitive human resources with systematic knowledge and understanding of national power, political institutions, democracy, and foreign policy. In doing so, we will cultivate competent leaders in the public sector, including politics, media, law, bureaucracy, and international organizations, and the private sector, including companies and NGOs, who can respond to the needs and demands of the national and international communities and contribute to domestic and international development.
