About the Department

The Department of Music Education at KU is one of the most professional and creative colleges for training middle and high school teachers in Korea. It aims to cultivate music teachers and diverse music educators who meet the needs of the times. In a knowledge-based society, the ability to gather transmit, reorganize and creatively use knowledge is required. Therefore, the Department of Music Education cultivates excellent teachers with competitive and compassionate personalities in the field of education through creative teaching methods and systematic curricula to acquire expertise and skills in various fields related to music and education.
The Graduates of the department serve as competent educators in middle schools, high schools and universities throughout the country and are active performers on domestic and international performance stages. They are also actively engaged in creative and professional careers in various music-related fields, such as artistic performance planning, broadcasting, music-related book editing, and stage management.
The department has established a master's program in the General Graduate School and the Graduate School of Education to provide integrated undergraduate and graduate education. The Konkuk Academy of Music and Giftedness, under the Konkuk University Music Education Research, has been the administrative organization of the Seoul Music and Giftedness Scholarship Program since 2008. The academy provides high-quality education by developing a new system of music gifted education and various curricula. It has become a leading institution for music gifted education both domestically and internationally.
