The Department of Japanese Language Education is one of the best institutions in Korea for cultivating middle and high school Japanese language teachers, and we have been training excellent teachers with excellent teaching methods and compassionate personalities in line with the new era.
The Department of Japanese Language Education at KU admitted its first student in 1974. As of 2009, more than 1,500 graduates are working as middle and high school Japanese teachers in many areas of Korea and other fields, such as media companies, corporations, financial institutions, and domestic and overseas universities.
In particular, since 2001, Japanese language instruction has been implemented in the middle school curriculum, which has increased the number of graduates entering the teaching profession. Our department has established a Master's program for the Graduate School and a Master's program for the Graduate School of Education, focusing on developing Japanese regional experts by integrating undergraduate and graduate education.

Educational Goals
Based on KU’s founding principles of sincerity, fidelity, and righteousness, the department strives to cultivate both Japanese language teachers and Japanese regional experts who are open-minded, creative, have character, and are able to adapt to the age of information and globalization. To this end, we strive to develop our students' personalities as educators through creativity and human-centered education and have designed academic courses that equally encompass the areas of Japanese language, culture, history, and society. In addition to the systematic study of the Japanese language and its teaching, as well as Japanese literature and culture, our primary goal is to train competent Japanese language teacher and regional experts through practical activities and the creation of courses linked to actual educational institutions
