Founded in 1970, Konkuk University (KU) Department of Civil Engineering has consistently pursued systematic academic education based on the University's founding philosophy of “sincerity, fidelity, and righteousness,” producing civil engineers of high standard and possessing the virtues of trust and sincerity, working in all areas of the construction industry. Some examples of the planning, design and construction of 21st century-oriented national projects that our graduates have played a leading role in include high-speed railways, the Seohae Grand Bridge, and the Peace Dam. Specific majors offered by the department include structural engineering for the design/construction of structures, geotechnical engineering for the design/construction of foundations and tunnels, water engineering for the management of water resources and construction of ports, in addition to GIS (geographic information system) and surveying for the planning/management of land development.

Our department aims to develop students' ability to resolve complex civil engineering problems through the study of knowledge related to each of its academic areas, including structural, geotechnical, and water engineering in addition to GIS. Another of its objectives is the fostering of practical construction professionals with a global mindset, capable of actively dealing with engineering problems as expert engineers possessing the virtues of trust and sincerity based on Konkuk’s founding philosophy of “sincerity, fidelity, and righteousness.”
