Konkuk names Jong Pil Won 22nd President 첨부 이미지



Jong Pil Won (Faculty member of Social Environmental Engineering) became the 22nd President of Konkuk University on the 1st of September.

 

The new president received his bachelor’s degree from Konkuk University (College of Agricultural Engineering). Later, he received a Master’s and PhD in structural engineering from the University of Missouri and Michigan State University. With his working experience at the Samsung C&T Corporation, he became a professor at Konkuk in 1997. Afterwards, he served as Dean of the College of Life & Environmental Science, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Head of Management & Planning, at Konkuk University Foundation.

 

He served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council & Technology, Vice President of the Korean Society for Advanced Composite Structures and many other roles including governmental advisor off the campus.

 

Prof. Won had been nominated one of three candidates for the presidency by the Presidential candidate nomination board at the end of May before being named as the 22nd President of Konkuk University for the next four years by the Konkuk University Foundation.

 

  The President adopted a new slogan "Konkuk, the Green Wave that will lead the world” through a contest last August. He demonstrated vision to advance Konkuk as an innovative university which leads to finding solutions for the challenges that Korea and mankind are facing.

 

President Won stated, "I will reinforce Konkuk's research capabilities by fostering world-class research environments through the establishment of the Research Support Centre and incensement of the incentives for superb research area while introducing student-centred education that makes students’ dreams come true by shaping the open educational environment and through innovation in the education system like an extension of Micro-degree.” He added, “I will pave the way for Konkuk so it can evolve into a future-oriented higher education institution by building the largest animal hospital in Asia, reforming open study spaces, culturing global talents under the cooperation with the local community, securing solid income.”
